In this submission, Amnesty International provides information as stipulated in the General Guidelines for the Preparation of Information under the Universal Periodic Review. Amnesty International raises concerns about restrictions on fundamental freedoms and urges ratification of international human rights standards. The organization is also concerned about prisoners of conscience; restrictions on the rights to freedom of expression, association and movement; arbitrary arrests, detention without charge or trial, and unfair trials; intimidation of dissidents; the death penalty; restrictions on human rights monitoring; and the impact of the US embargo.
