&lt;h2&gt;Job Purpose &lt;/h2&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
Under the authority of the Senior Director for Research and Regional Programmes, directs and overseas provision of political and strategic advice on human rights challenges in the Middle East/North Africa; represents the work of the organization to key target audiences; leads the development of the Middle East/North Africa regional strategies; ensures development of country and sub-regional strategies; manages the staff, resources and outputs of the Middle East/North Africa Programme, including its non-London offices and other field presences; participates in the corporate management of the International Secretariat. 
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;Main Responsibilities&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
1. &amp;nbsp;Exercises strategic leadership and provides sound political judgment and expertise in relation to AI&amp;rsquo;s work on the region in order to lead the development of effective regional, country and thematic strategies, operational plans and responses to crisis situations. 
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
2. Scans the external world for opportunities and threats, maintains an overview of political, human rights and other relevant developments in the region, and undertakes fieldwork in order to ensure informed direction and risk management of the department&amp;rsquo;s work; provide timely political advice; and contribute a relevant regional perspective to the setting of AI&amp;rsquo;s overall directions for human rights work at the global level.

3.&amp;nbsp; Ensures integration at the regional level of research and action in order to provide an effective, coherent regional programme of work which delivers tangible outcomes for human rights in conformity with AI&amp;rsquo;s mission and consistent with its priorities, strategies and standards.

4. Represents AI at a senior level, including in the field, with government officials, international organizations, civil society organizations, public events and the media, developing and communicating messages crafted at influencing the appropriate audience.

5. Leads regional and country work in crisis situations, ensuring timely, effective interventions and flexible use of resources to support them.

6.&amp;nbsp; Develops and applies quality control systems to ensure timely and effective human rights action based on impartial, accurate and ethical research, and is accountable for the department&amp;rsquo;s activities and outputs. Ensures the identification and promotion of best practice, encouraging and leading learning and skill development among the department&amp;rsquo;s staff.

7.&amp;nbsp; Manages the staff and other resources of the department, including remote management, to ensure their most effective use, in line with agreed priorities and policies. Manages risk assessments and oversees the implementation of security procedures for regional programmes staff.

8. Builds and maintains effective working relationships with AI&amp;rsquo;s sections and structures in order to identify and exploit opportunities for co-operation, information-sharing and problem solving

9. Reports on the department work, including financial reporting, and contributes to the International Secretariat&amp;rsquo;s overall reporting obligations, ensuring accountability to internal stakeholders for the department&amp;rsquo;s programme of work and allocated resources.

10.&amp;nbsp; Participates in the corporate management of the International Secretariat, including by contributing to:&amp;nbsp;

A successful Programme Director would:

	&lt;li&gt;Ensure the development of strategies at regional and country level, taking on board organizational priorities and the situation on the ground.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Provide timely and sound political advice on regional and country human rights work, and contribute actively to the shaping of AI&amp;rsquo;s global human rights agenda.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Provide initiative and leadership in responding to crisis or emerging opportunities.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Represent AI effectively externally where a high profile is needed, whether in the field, with international organizations or other settings.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Effectively manage the staff and financial resources of the department, promoting excellence, encouraging flexibility and ensuring the application of AI&amp;rsquo;s standards and policies across regional work.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Develop and maintain cooperative relations with the rest of AI&amp;rsquo;s movement and key external stakeholders.&lt;/li&gt;

As Regional Campaign Coordinator for the Africa Program, you will be responsible for developing AI&amp;rsquo;s campaigning and crisis response work on sub-Saharan Africa. You will contribute directly to the development of AI&amp;rsquo;s campaigning worldwide. 	&lt;li&gt;Experience in selecting appropriate campaigning techniques and identifying relevant targets to achieve change; &lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Extensive knowledge of political, social and other human rights-related issues in Africa, including a good understanding of a human rights-based approach to poverty. &lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Experience of working in/with civil society organizations in Africa on thematic issues such as poverty and human rights, access to justice, and/or protection of civilians in armed conflict. &lt;/li&gt;
