The son of former Liberian president Charles Taylor, could face between 20 years to life imprisonment for the crimes he
committed in Liberia, while serving as the head of the Anti Terrorist Unit.
During the conflict in Liberia between 1989 and 1997 and again between 1999 and 2003, it is estimated that women made up over 30% of the fighting force. Although the conflict is over, many women still struggle to reintegrate into society.
Following the confirmation by the Liberian Senate of a bill re-proposing the death penalty for certain crimes, Amnesty International called on President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to veto the bill.
